Amanda Moretti has been dancing, teaching and choreographing for more than 30 years. She started ballet training as a teen with Mme Halina Lutomski in Elmira, N. Y. and attended York University in Toronto as a dance major focusing on dance composition and modern dance. She finished her B.A. in Dance at Naropa Institute in Boulder, Co. where she was strongly drawn into improvisation as a performing art and began to study different methods of bodywork such as Body-Mind Centering, release techniques, and contemplative dance. She later lived and taught in Montreal for 12 years working with many teachers , Andrew Harwood, Lisa McLellan, Kyra Lober, choreographing solo work. She began to teach improvisation in Montreal and was introduced to Butoh, a Japanese avant-garde style of dance that deeply impressed her .She performed a butoh duet in London with Catrina Vonradecki at The Place Theatre during that time.
For the past 10 years she has lived in Ithaca, teaching children ballet, modern dance for children and teens, and creative movement at the Ithaca Ballet Center, CSMA and Fall Creek Studios. She also performs Butoh and teaches, continuing as a student of Butoh teacher, Vangeline in N.Y.C.
Her last choreography was performed at the Winter Repertoire Show 2015 with company members of Ithaca Ballet titled”1931″, music by Stravinsky.
